In November 2024, the New South Wales Government launched a battery rebate program under the Peak Demand Reduction Scheme (PDRS) to encourage the adoption of home battery systems. This initiative aims to make renewable energy storage more accessible, helping households and businesses reduce energy costs and reliance on the grid.

  • Upfront Discount: Eligible participants can receive a significant discount ranging from $1,600 to $2,400 on the cost of installing a new battery system. The exact rebate amount depends on the usable capacity of the battery, with larger systems qualifying for higher discounts.
  • Virtual Power Plant (VPP) Incentive: Participants can receive an additional incentive of $250 to $400 for connecting their battery to a VPP. This incentive can be claimed twice, with a minimum of three years between claims.

  • Applicants must be residents or business owners in NSW.
  • The property must already have an operational rooftop solar system.
  • The installed battery must have a nominal capacity between 2 kWh and 28 kWh.
  • Installation must be carried out by an installer associated with an Accredited Certificate Provider approved under the PDRS.
