Canberra is paving the way when it comes to climate action and betterment. Having achieved 100% renewable energy and is progressing to be zero-emission by the year 2045.
Highlights of the Sustainable Household Scheme
- Interest-free loans upto $15,000 to be made available for eligible households through the scheme By ACT Government in canberra.
- A range of solar products will be financed through the scheme including solar panels, household battery storage units and energy-efficient appliances for everyday use
- FREE registration of vehicles for two years (starting May 2021 till June 2024) for zero-emission vehicles
- The Building Energy Efficiency Upgrade Fund by the ACT government for community clubs that are taking up energy-efficient upgrades
- The Building Energy Efficiency Upgrade Fund covers water and ventilation audits, partial grants that cover certain energy and water efficiency upgrades. No-interest loans for certain upgrades such as rooftop solar etc
In accordance with the ACT Government, it has become compulsory for electricity retailers to provide a reference bill to customers. In addition, customers should also be notified of existing plans that can reduce the bills.

The Sustainable Household Scheme offers interest-free loans to aid the costs involved with equipment installation. The loan can be anywhere between $2000 to $15000 based on the household’s capacity. The scheme is aimed at bringing savings as much as possible. With the upfront costs covered, the scheme makes switching to solar energy easy and highly affordable.
Note: The Sustainable Household Scheme is available only for detached homes with land value capped at $750,000.
With the ACT Government’s approach to the new Sustainable Household Scheme, households, as well as non-profit organisations, can avail of up to $15000 interest-free loans that can be used to get solar panels, zero-emission vehicles charging equipments, household battery storage and energy-efficient electric applications.
Electric vehicles owners need not worry about running out of charge while on the road! The scheme also includes setting up 50 electric vehicle charging station networks.
